What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Can I visit this website anonymously?

You can visit our website anonymously at any time. However, keep in mind, this assumes that you do not create an account, submit any of your personal information (email address, name, etc.) and you do not upload or post any comments, materials (e.g. media files like images, PDFs, etc.) or content to our website.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on our websites we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

If you decide to create an account, post a comment or interact online an anonymised ‘string’ (a type of data input) is created from your email address (also called a hash) and this may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you have a current account. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. Analytics

We use analytics packages to monitor and improve every user’s experience and help us identify popular content to produce for our community. This information is not individual or personalised. Meaning, we will not record your personally identifiable information as part of our analytics.

Who we share your data with

We take privacy very seriously and only ever share data with trusted third parties who assist us in operating our websites and providing services to you. For example, if we process a payment you authorise your payment information will likely be stored with either PayPal or Stripe, depending upon how you decide to pay us.

Our website also uses third-party software such as, for user accounts, Gravatar. For automated emails we use Drip.com. These software packages will often have their own privacy policies and security protocols. We are required to share information with these third-parties to assist in the operation of our websites and services.

Finally, we may use analytics and other non-personally identifiable information to market or advertise third-party products or services. We will never transfer or sell your personally identifiable information to a third-party unless we provide you with written notice. In most cases, these advertisers will promote their services through our platform or network but we will not transfer control or access to any personal information.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website, for example, on our news or education websites, we also store the personal information you provide in your user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their own personal information at any time (except you cannot change your username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information. Access to any and all personal information is handled in strict confidence and only approved Rask Group employees and directors can see this information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us.
